License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Required for any person to trap for the purpose of abatement, recreation, or commerce in fur any fur-bearing mammal or nongame mammal.

Fees: Application: None; Examination: Yes ; Permit: Resident: $117.16; Nonresident: $577.50; Junior: $39.40.

Examination Frequency: Once.

Exam Locations: Regional Fish and Wildlife Offices.

Experience Requirement: N/A

Average Time to Process Application: 15 working days.

Renewal Period: Annually, July 1 - June 30.

Special License Requirements: New applicant must present a copy of trapping certificate of proficiency.

Comments: Residents are persons who have resided in California for 6 months or more and are over 16 years of age; persons under 16 years of age may apply for a junior license; nonresidents must show proof that their state allows California residents to trap.
